New Zealand King Salmon’s (NZKS) freshwater and seawater operations have been showcased in a recent video series by global aquaculture communicator, James Sibley.
Two NZKS videos were released in December, as part of an eight-part series covering New Zealand’s unique and innovative aquaculture industry.
The videos focus on the journey of King salmon from freshwater to seawater, capturing operations at NZKS’ Tākaka and Tentburn hatcheries, and Ngāmahau – one of three sea farms in the Tory Channel.
The final videos, titled “Raising the Kings” and “Rearing the Kings”, were shared on James’ Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn channels and document the day-to-day operations of NZKS across the complete salmon life cycle.
“It was a privilege to host James in Te Tauihu and Tentburn, sharing the people and places unique to our company’s story,” says NZKS Head of Relationships and Communications, Monique Hatfull.
“James is passionate about aquaculture and committed to accurate and authentic storytelling with his audience, which is reflected in the strong connections he made during his time with us, and in the depth of information he was able to share through engaging content.
“For New Zealand King Salmon, these videos showcase the pride we take in our people, our salmon, and in the unique environments we farm in. We’re grateful to James for sharing not only our story – but the immense potential of New Zealand’s aquaculture sector, through this series.”
Aquaculture New Zealand partnered with James and local aquaculture companies in the South Island to provide insight to James’ global online audience into New Zealand’s ambitious aquaculture sector.
“After spending the past two years working primarily across the North Atlantic, it was incredibly exciting to immerse myself in a completely new aquaculture landscape in New Zealand,” says James. “Not just a new country, but new species, systems, and stories.
“From Tākaka to Tentburn and through the Marlborough Sounds, I had the privilege of following New Zealand King Salmon’s fish from broodstock and hatchery to the sea and, ultimately, to the plate.
“What stood out most was the passion and depth of knowledge of the NZKS team. Whether we were pen-side, tank-side, boating, or around the table, their openness in sharing both the realities of farming and their vision for the future was an aquaculturist’s dream. That spirit of transparency and continual evolution is what I love most about aquaculture, and it’s exactly what makes New Zealand King Salmon such a compelling story. I’ll be watching their journey closely, and I hope to return soon.”
