Picton’s foreshore came alive with pirates, mermaids and creative raft builders last weekend during the 14th annual Picton Maritime Festival.

New Zealand King Salmon is a sponsor of the event, which brings together Marlborough’s community from the land to the sea each January.

NZ King Salmon community sponsorship and events coordinator, Chelsea Yates, says the 2019 festival was another resounding success.

“NZ King Salmon is proud to sponsor this event because it brings together so many parts of our local and wider community, as well as visitors to our region, for a fun day out which also showcases the best of beautiful Marlborough.”

The festival had something for everyone, from the famous raft building competition, children’s treasure island dress up competition, craft and food stalls, games, and plenty of maritime activities like clinker and dory rides and water displays.

Chelsea says the foreshore was busy and had a great atmosphere throughout the day.

“At the NZ King Salmon stall, some of our wonderful team members were on hand to run three filleting and pin boning demonstrations during the day. Of course, we also had some of our delicious product available for many of the happy festivalgoers to try.”

On the foreshore, a live music stage included the headline act, the Koi Boys, set the crowd up for a great evening.

“It was great seeing so many families and also tourists enjoying the festival, and the grand finale, the 10pm fireworks over the water, really finished the day off perfectly.”
