TVNZ recently interviewed Mark Preece, our Fish Health Manager, about the launch of the new A+ New Zealand Sustainable Aquaculture environmental monitoring and certification scheme.
“It’s absolutely vitally important that we maintain the health and quality of the water that we farm in,” says Mark. “The A+ certification is going to help counter some of the concerns that local communities have about our sustainability.”
Aiming to show just how sustainable the New Zealand aquaculture industry is, the A+ Sustainable Aquaculture scheme allows anyone to go online and get the latest water quality and waste reduction statistics from New Zealand salmon, oyster and mussel farms, plus they can check out the health of surround marine species. All data is independently audited.
The new scheme is an industry and government-funded world class sustainable management framework which enables the New Zealand aquaculture industry to better engage with our communities and continuously improve our environmental practices while strengthening global demand for our seafood.
