The New Zealand King Salmon Company Ltd. today announces it will be a cornerstone supporter of the Mistletoe Bay Trust by sponsoring the development of one of the accommodation whare that is to be developed on their site at Mistletoe Bay in Queen Charlotte Sound.
Mr Simon Heath, the Chairman of the Trust said “the Mistletoe Bay Trust was formed in June 2004 and manages the campsite and foreshore reserve in consultation with the Department of Conservation. A guiding principle of the trust is that Mistletoe Bay should remain accessible to all and that the development of the site is a wide reaching community project. Ultimately the goal is to retain public access to the foreshore, beach, open space and walking track through to the scenic reserve.”
“We approached King Salmon as we saw their goal of environmental sustainability as being in close alignment to our vision of developing an eco-friendly Sounds experience that is available to all New Zealanders”.
The Trust is currently developing the site by building a central kitchen and meeting block that will be surrounded by up to 4 double whare sleeping units. Each unit will be able to sleep up to 6 people. The Trust has been seeking sponsors to enable the building work to get underway.
NZ King Salmon’s General Manager for Aquaculture, Mr Stewart Hawthorn, in announcing the substantial support of $15,000 towards the development of one of the whare, said “we all enjoy the Kiwi campsite experience and this is becoming harder to find for the average New Zealander. We were attracted by the enthusiasm and dedication of the Mistletoe Bay Trust members and their vision of developing an accessible Sounds experience based on sustainable principles.”
NZ King Salmon grows its Regal brand salmon in the Marlborough Sounds and as a custodian of the marine environment that it uses, it takes its environmental responsibilities very seriously. “We appreciate that The Mistletoe Bay Trust recognises King Salmon as a responsible member of the Sounds community. In turn we wanted to be involved with this project to support those operating alongside us, a venture that looks to harvest the enjoyable benefits of the environment while sustaining that environment for generations to come,” said Mr. Hawthorn.
